Information on foreign certificates, leaving certificates and language certificates
1. Foreign certificates
Foreign certificates relating to previous adacemic qualifications and examinations will only be accepted in German translation (exception: certificates in English do not have to be translated). The translation must be made by a publicly appointed and sworn interpreter/translator in the relevant language and be authenticated.
2. Leaving certificates
Please note that leaving certificates must be presented on the day of enrolment in an officially authenticated copy1.
Foreign certificates/documents will only be accepted in German translation (exception: certificates in English do not have to be translated). The translation must be made by a publicly appointed and sworn interpreter/translator in the relevant language and be authenticated.
3. Language certificates (proof of German language skills)
Foreign applicants from non-German-speaking countries and Germans whose native language is not German must prove that they have the necessary knowledge of German to be accepted for the programme. Only language certificates from recognised educational institutions will be accepted.

With TestDaF certificates the relevant level is required in all four skills. If the requisite level has not been achieved in one or more of the skills, the test will not be accepted. Exception: A TestDaF passed with at least the result TDN 4 in all modules of the test is regarded as evidence of linguistic aptitude for unconditional admission or enrolment in all Study Programmes and degrees.
Foreign applicants from non-German-speaking countries and Germans whose native language is not German will not be enrolled without one of the language certificates listed above.
Official authentications can be issued by authorities and notaries who are entitled to issue an official stamp (i.e. the authority issuing the document, city or municipal administration, residents' registration office, etc.). Copies of previously officially certified copies are not valid as proof.
